Hennah... A women's story!

"Iski haathon ki mehndi kitni khoobsurat hai" aunty pointed out to me noticing my sister's hand
"Ji" I said

I hid my hand under my dupatta. My mehendi was not as good as my sister's. Well, considering it was her day, it wasn't supposed to be. She was the Bride after all.

My sister was looking stunning in her gorgeous red lehenga and gold jewellery. As if one of the beautiful sculpture of ancient god's have come to life.

"Sonam tumhari beti ki shaadi hai aur tumne mehendi srf ek haath mein lagai" aunty commented on my mother.

"Are beti ki shaadi mein itna kaam hota hai... Kya Karen" my mum replied

My sister was sitting quietly gazing at her hands. I went upto her.
"Are you ok?" I asked
"Hmm" she replied a tear dropping on her hand.
I placed my hand on hers.
"It's going to be ok". I said

Loud whispers near the door caught my attention. My father in tears and his hands folded.
"Abhi itna hi hai. Shaadi ke Baad baaki dedenge"  He pleaded.

"Nai bhai Sahab Poora dijiye tabhi ladki Ko leke jaaenge'. My sister's father-in-law said.

I looked at the groom... My jeeju. Why wasn't he doing anything. I noticed small round mehendi on his hands. Why do guys put mehendi? My brain asked.

I went to them but was immediately asked to leave as I was young. I saw my sister looking out the window. Looking at the scene.

After much rapid discussion I saw my father kneel infront of him. And something crushed my heart. Before I started to go upto them. I heard the light banging of bangles beside me. It was my sister.

"Uncle ji" She said looking at her father-in-law directly. She took out her bangles and placed on his hand. "Please make your son wear these. He already has mehendi on his hand. It will look good on him"

She turned to my so called jeeju and said "I hope you get that the marriage is off."

She went to her room and locked the door.

After several attempts and her not opening the door. My dad gave up. Confirming she was safe everyone went to have restless sleep.

Next morning as usual we sat down for breakfast. When my sister came out with her apron on.

"Mama I am going to hospital... Tania come. It's your first day as surgical intern. You don't want to miss it." She said picking her keys.

After a quite drive and two hours of pre operative prep of patient we went inside the O.T
After discussing the plan of surgery. My sister's hennah covered hands slid under the surgical gloves. I saw the beautiful designed hands slowly hiding under the thick plastic.

Holding her hands out she whispered.
"Scapel please"

Love that Answered Everything!

"In today's generation people are using their fingers more for typing than writing."She told him
"So what are you typing love" he asked
"Secrets"She said
"What secret?. I thought there were no secrets between us" he asked

She looked at his question filled eyes. They were dark and beautiful. She felt his eyes were a wonderland of solutions. Solutions to solve her life.

She placed her hand on her face. Looking deeply into his eyes.

"Everyone has secrets dear" she replied
"Hmm? Well then can I know one?" He asked
"Okay... Well one if my secret is that I love your eyes"
"I know that." He replied naughtily
"Not like that stupid. I feel your eyes have solution to all my problems."
"Really!  well let me solve one more problem of yours" he said coming closer..

Few years later...

"I cant believe you came here. You wanna talk about property. My husband is dead. I just had a baby. I haven't seen my baby's face yet. And you want me to find solution now." She screamed angrily
"I can't help it mam. You three days to figure this out." He replied
"I know but"... She got inturepted when the nurse came with her baby.
"Well he is ready to be fed" the nurse said smiling and handing her the baby.

She looked at her new baby. His nose and lips were like his grand father. And then he opened his eyes. They were dark. Just like his father.
She smiled at her new found Love!

"Well Mr.Tom you keep the papers here. We will find a solution."

Eid & Equality!!

She was sitting on the chair with dates in her hand ready to put in her mouth.
"Ammy. When will the Azan start?? I want to see the Eid moon" she asked eagerly.
"Soon beta" her mother replied
Though they lived in hut. Yet they had ample meal to fill everyone stomachs.
After azan she quickly gobbled up her dates and water and ran outside. As she passed the gates she saw her friends running outside too. Little bells on their anklet kept knocking together as they ran out of their huts.
Somehow the slum was beautiful today.
They ran and reached the mansion. The old man left it to her friend's father. They got permission to go up the roof and look at the moon.
Hastily they went to the roof.
"I don't see it" one of her friends shouted.
"It's not visible right now" a group shouted from behind.
As they turned around they saw well-dressed, well-presented kids of their age.
"What are you doing here?" The slum kids shouted. "You can't be here if your parents see us we will get in trouble"
"No it's ok. Please let us see the moon." The kids requested.
In the midst of all this someone shouted “There is the moon. Eid Mubarak!!!”
And they all started hugging each other.
A beautiful sight of society classes merging in union, on this beautiful occasion.
Eid really did bring people together!

The Crescent Moon: Eid Mubarak

There is a saying “Work hard in silence and let Success make the noise.”

And that's what is done in the holy month of Ramadan. After a month of praying, fasting, and spending sleepless nights of worship, a day comes when all the children run up to the tallest building in the area to see the Crescent Moon.
The sighting of the moon brings an end to the hard work and welcomes the Fun-time.
Visiting the friends and relatives..
The Sweets..
The Siwayin..
Receiving the Eidi (YES..that's the best part)..

Eid is a joyous occasion which is celebrated around the world.

And a beautiful occasion like is upon us..
And we..here at Nashee's Diaries wish you the very best of this Festival..
May you be showered with Joy and Love!

Eid Mubarak!!

Human..The Trouble Maker

When we talk about the greatest problems on Earth..
We talk about pollution..We talk about poverty..We talk about crime..We talk about war..
But what is the greatest problem on Earth??

Here is the simple answer:
It's US...
..that’s right US...
We, the Human Beings..

WHY?
Because when Earth came to life there was no crime,
there was no poverty..
and there was no war.

But when humans came, crime came, poverty came, and even war became to happen..

What leads to these problems..is the difference in our belief, words and actions.

We say we are united but actually we have divided ourselves.
We have divided ourselves into Nations, Religions, Races, Casts, Genders etc etc

Why can’t we simply call ourselves earthlings. So much easier to remember.
We say men were born equal so why do we treat some people as insignificant as bugs... but some as important as Gods.
Why do we treat Americans and African American differently?
We talk about gender equality, but still discriminate between men and women.
Why do we do that?
Because we are ALL BARK AND NO BITE.
And that makes US the greatest problem on Earth!!

A Gift to Remember!

It was the best gift I ever received in my life.
It was not just a book. It was the feeling that brought the book to me.
The first time he gave it to me, I lost it. Someone borrowed it and never gave it back (people..HUH!)
And then 2 years later, he gave that book to me..again..
But this time it was different. This time it was not just the book that I was receiving. It was Love!
Pure Love!

A book of mere 350 rs. And I still cherish it, more than I cherish many of my worldly things.
Now its old, the pages are all yellow.
But I know, that I want to keep it safe, and I want to pass it on...to my kids..
Not coz its such an amazing read.
But coz I want them to know, that no matter what happens...I am going to cherish that book..
Always....and Forever!!

I remember!

Its been years since I have seen him. But I remember.

I remember how his hands supports my head.
I remember the soft touch of his kiss.
I remember when his tears wet my cheeks.
I remember when he buries his face on my shoulder.
I remember the pressure on my lap when his head rest on me.
I remember my fingers running through his hair
I remember tips of my fingers touching his lips.
I remember spaces between his fingers grasping my fingers.
I remember his soft pecks on my cheeks.

Its a chilly evening and there is fog on my window's glass. Its chilly and stormy, just like my mind..So much is going on..so much to remember..

But my heart is clear, and peaceful..I cherish everything about him..

Because even today.... I remember!
